On Shrove Tuesday we have a special Mass that includes the burning of palms from last year's Palm Sunday. The ashes will be used the next day to mark the foreheads of parishioners as we begin Lent together. After Mass we will share some treats together including the traditional pancakes as we prepare for the Lenten Fast!!!!
On December 12th we will have a wonderful evening of entertainment from the Ambition Music Project and Sacred Heart Primary School. Santa will be in his grotto in our log cabin, you will be escorted by his helpers through the candlelit woodland trail. Inside there will be stalls selling cakes, mulled wine and lots of seasonal gifts. It's a night for all the family. There will also be our Christmas draw, you can buy tickets on the night and a chance to win £500!!! Come along.
On Thursday December 5th at 1pm we will have our Community Christmas lunch. Mark Dunne of the Bluebell pub and winner of last year's Manchester's Unsung hero award will be doing the catering. The lunch is laid on for people nominated by friends or admirers. Those nominated are seen as deserving in some way of a special treat. The treat is a generous 5 course meal, with prizes and drinks thrown in as well as live entertainment. We look forward to Mark and his team delivering such Christmas cheer. Thanks Mark for all you do in the community.
We will be having a retreat day on Saturday, November 30th. The day will begin with Mass at 12 noon. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament all afternoon in Church, with the opportunity for confession or conversation with a priest. In the hall there will be refreshments and also a Taize themed prayer space, outside in the parish grounds there will be prayer stations, each with an image or word from Advent to reflect upon, so the individual can make a journey with the Holy Family. In the log cabin there will be an icon prayer space with the opportunity to reflect prayerfully on a sacred image. In the poly tunnel there will be a lectio prayer space with passages of Scripture relating to Advent: the polytunnel is a place of waiting and growth. At 5pm there will be Rosary and Benediction and at 5.30pm there will be a Vigil Mass where Tim Byron SJ will be our guest preacher. You don't need to be from our parish to come along so please do join us. All are welcome.
On November 18th 10 young people from the Ambition Music Project will be performing in the iconic Lloyds building in the financial district of London. the performance in the 'Old Library' will be in front of an audience of executives, politicians, media and religious leaders. The purpose of the event is to raise the profile of the SAFE Gorton project and hopefully to interest help and financial support. The event has been organised by Barbara Schonhofer, Barbary Merry and Inga Beale, Executives in the Insurance industry who have become great friends to the SAFE project.
The ambition music group will be travelling to London in June for a two day mini-tour. The young people have been invited to sing at the Catholic Social Action Network (CSAN) Conference. CSAN have been impressed by our project and want it to be seen by a national audience. The young people will also be performing for a group of business people at an event set up by Barbara Schonhoffer to raise awareness and funds for the work of the project.
A group of parishioners will be travelling to Rome and Assisi carrying the whole parish in our thoughts and prayers. We will be staying at the English College country house; Palazzola and visiting the tombs of the apostles and all the famous sites of Rome before moving on to visit the town made famous by St Francis, our patron.
